Soft Tinnitus (Phantom Noise)

Der kleine, gewölbte Raum im Kunstverein Gießen öffnet sich wie ein Gehörgang für eine Klangkomposition, die an Phantomgeräusche im Ohr erinnert.

Die Aufnahmen für die Komposition entstanden durch Rückkopplungen zwischen einem Audiorekorder und einem Schallwandler in einer geschlossenen Hand. Sie sind – wie Phantomgeräusche – ohne direkten Einfluss einer äußeren Schallquelle entstanden. Die Frequenzen sind im Raum hör- und fühlbar, sie verändern sich mit der Bewegung des Körpers im Raum.

Auszüge der Spektrogramme der Komposition sind durch kleinformatige Pigmentdrucke auf Folien an der Wand sichtbar gemacht.

Phantom Noise (Soft Tinnitus)

The small, vaulted room in the Kunstverein Gießen opens up like an auditory canal for a sound composition reminiscent of temporary tinnitus symptoms – phantom noises in the ear.

The recordings for the composition are feedbacks between a microphone and a contactless resonance speaker. The natural oscillation of the material allows the frequencies to be heard and felt in space, changing with the movement of the body. Thus, the experience of the composition in space fluctuates between a feeling of tension and relaxation.

Excerpts of the composition’s spectrograms are made visible through small-format prints on transparencies.
